Dimick, Rowland named to NEWMAC field hockey all-conference team

November 8, 2005

WORCESTER, MA- The Wheaton College field hockey team had two players selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference second team at Tuesday's postseason meeting at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Senior midfielder Elizabeth Rowland (Holliston, MA/Holliston) and sophomore midfielder Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) each earned citations.

Rowland received an all-conference selection for the third consecutive season, and Dimick was a first-time honoree. Rowland was a first-team pick as a sophomore and named to the second team last fall.

In 19 games this season, Rowland set a career high with 17 points while tying her personal best of seven markers, matching the total from her freshman year. The Lyons' central midfielder and co-captain contributed a pair of game-winning goals, and she netted four of Wheaton's five goals during consecutive mid-September victories. Rowland triggered the second-best scoring offense in program history, as the Lyons netted 39 goals. Rowland will graduate fifth at Wheaton with 50 career points, tied for fifth with 10 assists and tied for sixth with 20 goals.

Dimick started all 20 games for the Lyons, contributing two goals and three assists, as well as a game-winning marker. The second-year player picked up both of her goals during a late-October game, less than a week after assisting on the game-winning tally during a NEWMAC contest as Wheaton made a late-season playoff push.

As a team, Wheaton went 8-12 overall and 3-5 in the NEWMAC. After tying for fifth in the regular season standings and drawing the sixth seed in the conference tournament, the Lyons fell to third-seeded Wellesley College, 3-1 in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament. Wheaton played nine one-goal games this fall, which included narrow 1-0 losses to nationally-ranked Bowdoin and Springfield colleges.
