Dimick, Connolly each score twice in Wheaton's non-conference victoryOctober 22, 2005 NORTON, MA- Sophomore Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) and freshman Lauren Connolly (Manchester, MA/Pingree School) each scored twice to lead Wheaton College past Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 7-0 in non-conference field hockey action Saturday at Clark Field during Homecoming weekend. The Lyons improved to 7-11 while the Monks remained winless in 11 contests. Dimick netted the game-winner 4:09 into the match off an assist from junior Shea Clarke (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) before the Lyons extended the lead to two goals with 1:40 remaining in the opening period. Senior Elizabeth Rowland (Holliston, MA/Holliston) corralled a pass from freshman Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) and flicked a shot into the left side of the cage. Wheaton held a 17-0 advantage in shots during the opening half. Four minutes into the second stanza, Saint Joseph's sophomore Darcey Ward (Dresden, ME/Hall-Dale) streaked toward the cage, but freshman keeper Jackie Riccio (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) made a left pad save and sent the Lyons into a quick transition to offense. At the other end, the ball was served into the circle to junior Rachel Sminkey (White River Junction, VT/Hartford), who was stopped on her initial shot, then turned aside on a defensive save by freshman back Lauren Snow (Dover-Foxcroft, ME/Foxcroft Academy) before depositing her third shot into the net. Clarke tallied off Rowland's penalty-corner inbounds pass with 12:57 remaining, Dimick netted her second goal with 7:29 to go, and Connolly tacked on markers with 6:25 and 5:30 on the clock, respectively, with Sminkey assisting on the second.
