Wheaton edged by Tufts, 1-0 in non-conference actionOctober 20, 2005 MEDFORD, MA- Wheaton College fell during non-conference field hockey action to Tufts University, 1-0 on Thursday evening at Bello Field. The Lyons dropped to 6-11 overall and suffered their eighth one-goal loss of the season, while the Jumbos, members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), improved to 7-4. Tufts earned the best scoring opportunity of the opening half, as the Jumbos were awarded a penalty stroke midway through the stanza. However, senior Erika Goodwin (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) pushed her shot wide left of the cage. Just 7:07 into the second period, the Jumbos netted the only goal of the game. Sophomore Ileana Casellas-Katz (Denmark, ME/Fryeburg Academy) sent a shot past Wheaton junior keeper Mary Catherine Boll (Columbus, IN/Miss Porter's School), and the ball barely eluded a defensive player on its way into the net. Junior Shea Clarke (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) later recorded her fifth defensive save of the season to keep the score 1-0. Boll made 10 saves while Tufts junior Marilyn Duffy-Cabana (Amesbury, MA/Amesbury) notched four stops. The Jumbos held advantages in shots, 18-7 and penalty corners, 12-8.
