Lyons surrender six first-half goals to nationally-ranked BabsonOctober 18, 2005 BABSON PARK, MA- Wheaton College surrendered six first-half goals and eventually fell to nationally-ranked Babson College, 7-0 in Tuesday night's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey game. Entering the game with three wins in their last four games, the Lyons slip to 6-10 on the season and 2-5 in conference play, while the Beavers, ranked 20th in the country by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and winners in 11 of their last 12 games, stay unbeaten in league play at 7-0 with an overall mark of 15-3. Junior Andrea Tufts (Wolfeboro, NH/Brewster Academy) paced the hosts with four goals, as Babson put the game out of reach early with six goals covering a span of 18:04. Senior Elise Conley (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) got things started with the game's initial tally 3:46 into the contest. Tufts followed that up with two straight scores, both coming from senior Gina Giardina (Saint Louis, MO/Villa Duchesne). Giardina extended the lead to 4-0 with 17:49 to play, and sophomore Brittany Stevens (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) made it 5-0 with 16:18 remaining. Tufts rounded out the scoring with another pair of goals, one in each half, as Babson recorded a 24-16 edge in shots. Junior goalie Mary Catherine Boll (Columbus, IN/Miss Porter's School) was saddled with her first loss of the season for the Lyons, turning away 16 shots in the cage, while Babson first-year keeper Elissa Slovin (Andover, MA/Andover) made seven saves in 65 minutes.
