Hickey caps memorable week with ECAC's and NEWMAC's top honorsFebruary 4, 2008
Hickey helped move Wheaton into sole possession of first place in the NEWMAC while becoming the first junior in school history and ninth player overall to reach the 1,000-point milestone. She averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 61.5 percent (16-26) from the field, 83.3 percent (5-6) from three-point territory and 75.0 percent (3-4) from the free throw line. In Wednesday's 78-71 win at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Hickey went over the 1,000-point plateau with a career-best 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting to go along with a career-high four threes and nine rebounds. She became just the sixth Lyon to score 30 points, and her 12 field goals were the most by a Wheaton player in 14 years. During Saturday's 69-54 victory against Springfield College, Hickey finished with 10 points, seven boards, four assists and three steals. Hickey, who is 12 points away from eighth place on Wheaton's all-time scoring list with 1,037 points and is ninth in career field goals with 403, paces the Lyons in scoring average (13.8) and three-point percentage (.500). She ranks second in field goal (.510) and free throw (.772) shooting and rebounding (5.8) while placing third in each assists (51) and steals (29). As of last week, Hickey was among the conference's best in multiple statistical categories. She was fifth in each scoring and free throw percentage and seventh in field goal shooting. Hickey has helped lead the Lyons to a 14-5 record, as Wheaton has won 10 of its last 11 games, and an unblemished 7-0 conference mark. The Lyons are off to their best overall and league starts in 13 seasons. Wheaton travels to NEWMAC foe Babson College on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. start. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
