Hickey ninth Lyon to join 1,000-point club, first junior to reach milestoneJanuary 31, 2008
Hickey recorded her 1,000th point in the 73rd game of her career. Each of the top four scorers in program history needed at least 83 games to reach 1,000, as Hickey is believed to be the second-fastest player in Wheaton annals to attain the feat. She became the first Lyon to get to 1,000 since Christine Whelan '95 in December 1994. This season, Hickey leads the squad in scoring average (14.1) and three-point percentage (.486) while placing second in each field goal (.508) and free throw (.768) shooting and rebounding (5.8). She is third in both assists (47) and steals (26). Entering the week, Hickey stood fifth in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in scoring average and free throw percentage and was seventh in field goal shooting. One of the team's captains, Hickey earned New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) all-region honors last season, the first Lyon to do so since 1996, while becoming the program's initial player since 1995 to repeat as an all-conference selection. In 2006, Hickey had the distinction of being the first Lyon to earn a league rookie-of-the-year accolade, receiving the first major conference honor for a Wheaton player since 1995. Hickey's name appears frequently in the program record book for a handful of single-season categories. As a sophomore, she joined the top 10 for free throw percentage (3rd), field goal percentage (4th), field goals (T-4th), points (5th) and three-point accuracy (5th). During her freshman season, Hickey set program records for points and field goals by a freshman. Her field goal figure tied for ninth in school history, while her point total stands 10th. While missing only one game in her career, and making 72 of her 73 appearances in the starting lineup, Hickey continues to climb the program's career lists. In addition to being ninth in scoring, she is ninth in field goals (399). Her current percentages would also place her first in three-point shooting (.403), third in shooting from the charity stripe (.795) and fourth in field goal percentage (.476). Her career scoring average of 14.1 would be second. Since arriving in Norton, Hickey has led the Lyons to a 46-28 record, as Wheaton looks to record a third consecutive winning season for the first time since 1997-98. During Hickey's two-plus years, the Blue and White already has the highest three-year win total since the 1994-95 through 1996-97 seasons. Last year, Wheaton advanced to its first league semifinal since 1996, and the Lyons appeared in their first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament championship game. Wheaton is 13-5 overall this season and tied for first place in the NEWMAC with a 6-0 mark, its best league start since 1994-95. Wheaton All-Time Scoring List
