Hickey completes stellar sophomore season with NEWBA All-New England honorsMarch 22, 2007 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's basketball forward Krystin Hickey (Manchester, NH/New Hampton School) wrapped up her stellar sophomore season by becoming the first Lyon named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) all-region team since 1996. Hickey, who in early February was voted Wheaton's inaugural New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference first teamer in the league's nine-year existence, earned the first NEWBA All-New England honors by a Lyon since Kerri Bucko '96 in 1996. Hickey was one of three NEWMAC players named to the 15-member team and one of just two sophomores. Becoming the fourth Wheaton player to surpass the 400-point plateau in a season, Hickey already has 774 points in her two-year career, as she is looking to reach the 1,000-point milestone next season. If successful, she will become the first Lyon to do so since the 1994-95 season. Hickey helped lead this year's team to a 19-11 record and its first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament championship game appearance. Wheaton also finished with a program-best nine wins in league play. Starting in 28 of 29 games, Hickey paced the Blue and White in scoring (14.0), field goal (49.4), three-point field goal (41.9) and free throw (85.3) shooting while finishing second in steals (49). She ranked third in rebounding (4.6) and fourth in assists (59). In the final NEWMAC rankings, Hickey stood second in field goal percentage, third in free throw percentage, seventh in scoring and tied for 10th in steals per game (1.7). Hickey posted at least 20 points on six occasions and led her team in scoring 15 times. She accounted for double-figure scoring in 21 games, including a stretch of eight straight from January 23 through February 15. In the postseason, she notched at least 14 points in three games, including an 18-point effort on 7-of-11 shooting in the ECAC title game at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
