Guillerault and Kostaras sweep NEWMAC weekly awards following Wheaton's fourth consecutive NEWMAC title

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College baseball standouts Scott Guillerault (South Portland, ME/South Portland) and Nick Kostaras (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro) swept Monday's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards following the team's fourth straight league title yesterday, as Guillerault was honored as player of the week and Kostaras pitcher of the week for the week ending on Sunday, April 27.

A senior third baseman with the Lyons, Guillerault earned the third weekly conference award of his career and first since his sophomore season, while Kostaras, a sophomore righthander, garnered his first honor.

Guillerault swung a hot bat in leading Wheaton to a 4-0 week. Reaching base at an astounding .737 clip, Guillerault batted .583 and slugged .750, going 7-for-12 with five runs, four RBI, two doubles and five walks. He had multiple hits in three of the four games.

Guillerault batted 3-for-5 with a run in Wednesday's 10-3 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He was 2-for-3 with three RBI, three runs, a double and one walk during Thursday's 13-2 triumph against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Despite going 0-for-2 versus MIT on Saturday, Guillerault drew three walks and plated one run in Wheaton's 7-1 win. In Sunday's 4-1 title-game victory over Springfield College, he was 2-for-2 with a run, a double and a walk.

Kostaras tossed a gem in Sunday's championship game against Springfield, yielding one unearned run on three hits in 7.2 innings during Wheaton's 4-1 victory. Facing just five batters over the minimum, Kostaras improved to 5-0, allowing just one single and two doubles. He walked only two batters while fanning a career-high seven, retiring 11 of 12 batters during a stretch from the second through sixth innings.

Guillerault leads this year's team with 37 runs, 16 doubles, 33 walks and a .464 on-base percentage. His is also tied for second with 33 RBI. Guillerault is among the top five in a number of career categories, ranking first in games, walks and times hit by a pitch, second in home runs, tied for second in sacrifice flies, and third in runs, RBI and doubles.

Kostaras has had a breakout season as one of Wheaton's starters, posting a 5-0 record with a 2.87 earned run average. Involved in two shared shutouts to date, he has 38 strikeouts and 12 walks in 53.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .263 average.

The tandem leads the Lyons into the final week of the regular season beginning with tomorrow's non-league home game against Rhode Island College at 3:30 p.m. Wheaton makes an appearance in its fourth straight NCAA Tournament, which is slated to start on May 14 at Whitehouse Field in Harwich.
