NEWMAC selects Malaguti as baseball player of the weekMarch 31, 2008
A sophomore outfielder for the Lyons, Malaguti batted .526 with seven runs and six RBI during a 5-0 week, helping Wheaton extend its winning streak to 12 games, which is the second longest in program history. Notching at least one RBI and run in each game, he slugged .579 and had a .583 on-base percentage in drawing two walks and getting hit twice. Malaguti went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in Tuesday's 8-1 victory at Brandeis University and 4-for-5 with a pair of runs, an RBI and a double during Thursday's 20-8 triumph at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He drove in a run and scored once in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning win at Springfield College before going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run during game two's 11-0 shutout. Malaguti finished the week with a 2-for-4 performance to go alongside one RBI and run in Sunday's 13-7 home-opening win against Endicott College. In 15 games with 14 starts, Malaguti is second on the team in batting average (.400) and third in hits (22). He also has 11 runs, 10 RBI and six walks. The 14-4 Lyons, who are 4-0 in the NEWMAC and ranked 18th in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll, return to the diamond tomorrow for a non-conference home game against Suffolk University at 3:30 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
