Baseball's Foote tabbed to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teamMay 10, 2007
Foote, who is pursuing a major in mathematics and economics, boasts a 3.68 cumulative grade-point average while helping lead the nationally-ranked Lyons to a 31-11 record and seventh automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. One of three outfielders selected to the all-district second team, Foote was also one of only four sophomores among the 22 players named to the first and second squads. The Dean's List honoree became Wheaton's everyday right fielder this spring, earning 41 starts while playing in all 42 games. He leads the Lyons with a .380 batting average, .500 slugging percentage and 75 total bases. Foote is also tied for the team lead with 57 hits and three home runs and has struck out just 13 times in 168 plate appearances. He is tied for fourth in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in RBI (28), tied for sixth in home runs, tied for seventh in triples (2) and eighth in batting. Foote adds his academic all-district honor to his recent academic all-conference award. On the field, he helped Wheaton capture its ninth regular season conference championship and eighth tournament title in the NEWMAC's nine-year history. In two seasons, Foote has been a part of a program that has gone 73-21 with a national finalist finish in 2006, a New England title, and two conference regular season and tournament crowns apiece. Wheaton, which is ranked sixth nationally and first in New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), concludes its regular season Monday against Suffolk University before opening play at the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday in Harwich. The District I College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
