The Lyons opened the game's scoring with a run in the first and the Anchormen answered with a run in the top half of the second, but after that it was all Wheaton, reeling off seven runs in the third and three in the fourth for a comfortable 11-1 advantage. Wheaton led 14-2 after seven and 16-3 after eight, as the Anchormen plated three runs in the ninth to complete the scoring.

O'Connor batted 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and the double, while freshman Scott Guillerault (South Portland, ME/South Portland) was 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. For Rhode Island College, senior Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA/Joseph Case), sophomore Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) and freshman Robert Doyon (Douglas, MA/Douglas) had two hits apiece. Doyon drove in two runs with a home run, while Higgins and Henault each scored a run.

Wheaton freshman Louie Bernardini (Gray, ME/Gray-New Gloucester) earned his second straight start this afternoon, going three innings while allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Senior Matt Ponte (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven) picked up the win in the first relief appearance of his career, firing two shutout innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout. RIC junior Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI/Woonsocket) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing four earned runs on four hits with two walks.
