George Rodriguez begins his second year as the coordinator for varsity sports and external relations and as a men's and women's track & field assistant coach. Among his many responsibilities, Rodriguez is a member of the department's senior management staff.
Rodriguez, a 2006 graduate of Williams College, provides day-to-day assistance and leadership in the areas of athletic administration pertaining to fundraising, enhancing the athletic department's role in the Lyons Athletic Club, event supervision, hosting of postseason championship events, compliance and the work-study budget. He also serves as a departmental representative on college-wide committees.
Rodriguez has had an abundance of experience in leadership positions, including during the 2007-08 school year, when he served as a graduate assistant men's track & field coach at Springfield College and the head boys' and girls' track & field coach at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham. In the fall of 2007, he was a tournament director for a pair of college volleyball tournaments while managing athletic events at Springfield.
For much of the 2007-08 academic year, Rodriguez also worked in the Westfield State College athletic department, where he maintained the budget, assisted with maintenance of the athletics Web site, was a contest manager and performed academic support services. During the prior school year, Rodriguez worked in the Springfield Office of Graduate Studies, organizing orientations and open houses for prospective students, and was the assistant coordinator for the NCAA Division III New England Baseball Tournament.
Rodriguez has been involved with numerous community service projects, and he also worked as a congressional intern on Capitol Hill in the summer of 2004 for Congressman Richard E. Neal. During the summer of 2006, Rodriguez was a program director for William E. Simon & Sons in Los Angeles, where he designed a fitness curriculum to be employed by the L.A. Unified School District and managed multi-million-dollar grants for the non-profit Sound Body Sound Mind fitness program, which provides urban high schools with athletic equipment.
A four-year member of the Williams track & field team, Rodriguez was a 2006 All-American. The East Longmeadow native earned his bachelor's degree in economics and completed his master's at Springfield in physical education with a concentration in athletic administration in the summer of 2008.
