Haas, Jr. Fund Challenge
Update: May 2004
The Haas, Jr. Fund has offered a $1 million challenge grant to encourage completion of a sustaining endowment for the visiting artists program. This generous challenge has inspired alumnae/i and friends to support the endowment with more than $2 million in gifts and pledges so far. Wheaton is now 67 percent of the way to its goal of $3 million and meeting the challenge. Your support of the arts now will help maintain this exciting momentum. To learn more about how to contribute, please e-mail Mary Casey, director of development, at mcasey@wheatoncollege.edu. Your gift will help sustain this exciting program, bringing together future generations of students and artists.
The Haas, Jr. Fund challenge
The Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund of San Francisco generously funded the launching of the visiting artists program with a $600,000 grant in 2003. At the same time, the fund offered an additional $1 million to help Wheaton build an endowment for the program's future. If Wheaton can raise a minimum of $3 million by the end of 2007, the Haas, Jr. Fund will award the college an additional $1 million, boosting the program endowment to $4 million.
We hope that this generous challenge will encourage other supporters of the visiting artists program to join in ensuring the program's future. An endowed fund totaling at least $4 million will guarantee that future generations of Wheaton students will benefit from the presence of practicing, professional artists on campus.
Celeste Gottesman Bartos '35, a longtime supporter of the arts and contemporary culture, was the first to rise to the Haas, Jr. Fund's challenge. She has pledged $1 million to the visiting artists program, providing immediate momentum for the initiative and for the exciting opportunity the challenge presents.
Your support is needed to preserve this momentum. Wheaton must reach its goal of $3 million by December 31, 2007, to meet the challenge successfully and qualify for the Haas, Jr. Fund's $1 million grant. With your help, Wheaton's students will continue to be inspired, challenged and engaged by distinguished visiting artists--today, tomorow and always.
