Let Your Voice Be Heard

How has Wheaton made a difference in your life?

I know for me, it was that at Wheaton...I found my voice. I developed the confidence in myself...my talents, my abilities, my academic skills, that laid the ground work for me to feel like I could accomplish whatever I set my mind to. I developed a sense that you may not always succeed as you think success is defined, but true failure comes not from not accomplishing a task as you wish...but rather from not trying at all.

I often think back on Wheaton fondly and wonder what was it about the Wheaton experience that provided for this sense of confidence? Perhaps it was the academic structure that allowed for us to have a strong hand in shaping our own learning. Perhaps it was the professors whose encouragement seemed personal and particular to each student's strengths. Perhaps it was the history of Wheaton that reminded us how special such a good education was and is. And perhaps it was just that time in life when you are out on your own discovering who you are and who you want to be. For me, it was about being in the right place, at the right time. I couldn't have chosen a better place to define myself.

What is your experience? Wheaton's new president, Ronald A. Crutcher wants to know. The President's Coordinating Council is meeting regularly to learn from the past to shape the future. Share your thoughts, let your voice be heard. Share what you think makes Wheaton distinctive--how do you see Wheaton's core values, how can Wheaton leverage these qualities to ensure that Wheaton is one of the nation's preeminent liberal arts college, and how can we encourage greater alumnae/i involvement in the life of the college today?
