My strongest (good, bad, ugly, crazy, funny) memory of Wheaton is...

Results from the Class SurveyFather-daughter weekends.
Friday evening consolation sundaes.
Saturday evening consolation grilled steak.
7 O'clock doors.
Sign out books.
Watching my parents drive away my first day at Wheaton.
The beautiful orchid leis that Sharlene Luke's parents gave all of us to wear at graduation.

Studying for my first Chemistry test during the Blackout.
Studying in Meneeley seminar room.
Studying beside a crackling fire in the library in winter.
Nights alone in the not yet completed Science Center doing my honors thesis.
Eating dinner in Emerson Dining Hall by candle light during the Blackout.
Miss Mandell's Organic Chemistry class. Also remembered: Ms. Heisley, Mr. Forman, Mr. Worthley, Dr. Martin, Mr. Austin, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Goodman, and Mr. Murphy.

The magnificant copper beech tree in the Everett courtyard. It went into decline after we graduated, and now the tree is gone. I believe the tree was loved to death by generations of Wheaton students (like me) who trompled the soil to climb its limbs.

Being asked to teach a 101 Russian class, and actually doing it.
Reading Latin American poetry for the first time outside South America.
Working with mentally retarded kids at the Paul A.Dever School.
Campaigning door to door for McCarthy.
Trying to get Wheaton's President to take a stand against the Vietnam War.

Feeling as though I belonged to something outside my family.
Having the luxury of spending four years studying art history in beautiful surroundings with good companions.
Laughing through dinner with my very dear friends.
Realizing how incredibly happy I was at Wheaton for four years.
My roommate of four years, Missy Evans Fountain.

Swimming with the Tritons and then eating a fourth meal at the Cage.
Learning to play Bridge and the weekend 36-hour bridge marathons.
Receiving a D+ in Indian Philosophy.
Wearing a long coat over my nightgown to 8:00 am classes.
Accidentally setting Jean Clifford's hair on fire trying to light her cigarette.
Too many memories to recount them all, but most involved the Dimple.
My boyfriend climbing into my first floor bedroom window at 1 a.m.
Eating a 5-gallon tub of chocolate mocha chip ice cream to celebrate our 21st birthday.
