Application information for international students

Admission to Wheaton is very competitive and is based on academic preparation, intellectual curiosity, writing skills, English proficiency, the difficulty of a student's secondary-school curriculum, teacher and counselor evaluations and achievements outside the classroom.

Students may apply to Wheaton by completing the Common Application, available online at www.commonapp.org.

The submission of standardized test results (SAT Subject and Reasoning tests and the ACT) is optional.

Applicants for whom English is not the first language must provide evidence of their fluency. Please submit scores from the IELTS or TOEFL. A score of 7.0 on the IELTS is recommended for admission. A score of at least 90 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) is expected, although students who score over 100 are considered best prepared for a smooth transition to academic life at Wheaton.

The code for sending your IELTS score to Wheaton is 5109. For TOEFL, the code is 3963.

Students who have been studying entirely in English throughout secondary school and/or earned and SAT Reasoning score above 520 may request a waiver of the English proficiency requirement by contacting the Admission Office at admission@wheatoncollege.edu after submitting an application.

Students are eligible for advanced standing at Wheaton pending the results of exams such as the GCE A-Levels, IB and AP.

In 2009, 519 international students applied for admission to the Class of 2013, 269 were admitted and 59 enrolled.

Members of the admission staff are familiar with educational systems around the world and know how to interpret the transcripts and grading scales of many different countries.

Application decision plans and deadlines are as follows:
Early decision I: November 15
Early decision II: January 15
Regular decision: January 15
Transfer (fall entry): March 1 *
Transfer (spring entry): November 1 *

The application fee of U.S. $55 is waived for students who apply online to Wheaton through the January 5, 2010 application deadline.

Wheaton offers two Early Decision plans, both of which are binding, meaning that admitted students are expected to enroll. As a result, Early Decision candidates must be certain that Wheaton is their top choice among all colleges and universities that they are considering. The application requirements for Early Decision I and Early Decision II are the same. It is important to note that the majority of Wheaton's financial aid for non-US citizens is awarded during the Regular Decision application process, therefore non-US citizens who require substantial financial aid are not encouraged to apply for Early Decision admission.

*Academic merit scholarships are not available for transfer students.
