Application information for international students
Admission to Wheaton is very competitive and is based on academic preparation, intellectual curiosity, writing skills, the difficulty of a student's secondary-school curriculum, teacher and counselor evaluations, achievements outside the classroom.
The submission of standardized test results (SAT Subject and Reasoning tests and the ACT) is optional.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language must submit scores earned on the TOEFL or ELPT, administered by the Educational Testing Service. The ETS code for sending your scores to Wheaton is 3963. A score of at least 237 on the computer-based TOEFL, 580 on the paper-based TOEFL or 90 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) is expected for admission.
Students who have been studying entirely in English throughout secondary school and/or earned and SAT Reasoning score above 500 may request a waiver of the TOEFL requirement by contacting the Admission Office.
Students are eligible for advanced standing at Wheaton pending the results of exams such as the GCE A-Levels, IB and AP. Students may apply to Wheaton by completing the Common Application, available in college counseling offices or online at www.commonapp.org.
In 2008, 404 international students applied for admission to the Class of 2012 and 129 were admitted.
Members of the Admission Staff are familiar with educational systems around the world and know how to interpret the transcripts and grading scales of different countries.
Application decision plans and deadlines are as follows:
Early decision I: November 1
Early decision II: January 15
Regular decision: January 15
Transfer (fall entry): March 1 *
Transfer (spring entry): November 1 *
Wheaton offers two Early Decision plans, both of which are binding, meaning that admitted students are expected to enroll. As a result, Early Decision candidates must be certain that Wheaton is their top choice among colleges and universities that they are considering. The application requirements for Early Decision I and Early Decision II are the same. It is important to note that financial aid for non-US citizens is awarded only during the Regular Decision application process, therefore non-US citizens who require financial aid are not encouraged to apply for Early Decision admission.
The application fee of U.S. $55 is automatically waived for students who apply to Wheaton online before January 5, 2009.
* Merit scholarships are not available for transfer students. Financial aid is not available to non-U.S. citizens transfer students.
