Academics at Wheaton
My academics in high school (UWCSEA) were more time-challenging than my first semester here. The course range is interesting, particularly in the Economics department. I have realized that I have a lot more "different" course options than friends at other colleges/universities.
Adjusting to Wheaton
It was difficult because a lot of people don't know how hard it is to move halfway across the world on your own. You have to endure a lot of rather ridiculous questions and comments about your home country, but in the end you learn to take it all in a positive light. Just as being in the U.S. educates the international students, us being in the here educates the U.S. citizens we study with.
Have you made lasting friendships here?
Absolutely.
Where have you traveled in the U.S.?
My family travels a lot, so I have possibly been to more parts of the U.S. as a tourist than many Americans will in their lifetime.
What do you like about Wheaton?
The close "almost" friendship you develop with your professors, and always being able to see some familiar faces around each day.
Have you had any internships or jobs here?
I have worked in Student Life, Admissions, as a Writing Tutor, and in the Corporate and Foundation Relations Office. They have all been interesting. Additionally, I have just won the Davis Fellowship to continue my research on Educational Public Policy in Cambodia for the summer.
How has this experience impacted your life?
Wheaton has allowed me to push myself towards discovering what I want to do in the future. Because I am a student at Wheaton, I have been able to explore classes that may have intimidated me in other institutions. I'm doing a five course load each semester, and I find the environment very supportive. Additionally, because of the work I have done at Wheaton, I have managed to secure a summer internship with the Singaporean government's Ministry of Education.
