For Faculty
Faculty members are encouraged to collaborate with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) to obtain outside funding for their research and student teaching projects. Individual initiative taken by faculty members reflects well on the College as an increased number of external donors supporting faculty research and teaching projects heightens Wheaton's profile in the eyes of other private or public funding sources who may be considering a grant to the College.
If you are interested in seeking private or public support for your work, we recommend that you take these initial steps:
1) Contact the Office of the Provost to ensure that your project idea is consistent with College objectives and that the necessary resources required by the College are available. (It is particularly important to receive approval for course release time and applicant cost-sharing or other matching requirements at this time.)
2) Have an initial conversation with CFR in order to identify potential prospects and discuss specific proposal guidelines required by identified funding sources.
After having taken these two measures, CFR staff will provide assistance with a) proposal and budget development; b) oversight of the college's approval process; c) preparation of a letter of endorsement from the President or Provost; d) submission of the proposal to the funding agency; and e) stewardship of all narrative and financial interim and final reports. Please refer to the grants policy and procedures manual for complete details.
It is also important to note that the Kollett Center for Collaborative Learning at Wheaton sponsors internal funding opportunities for faculty. Further information can be found on the Kollett Center's website.
