Appendix C: Argon Discharge Lamp Reference Lines

The spectra were taken with the SBIG SGS with the 18micron entrance slit and high resolution grating. Exposures range from 20 sec. to 60 sec. Spectra were calibrated with Vspec. The spectra are not reversed so that the observer may quickly check that he/she has the proper spectral range during an observation session. The charts are provided in Excel format on the accompanying CD. Wavelength measurements come from the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 42nd edition, published by the Chemical Rubber Publishing Company, 1960. Hydrogen Balmer lines appear in this argon spectrum. This only happens when I am using a particular power supply. I have not seen this with the new power supply I am using.
