Friends of Art

About the Friends of Art

Members of the Wheaton College Friends of Art include alumnae/i, current students, faculty, and local residents with an interest in the visual arts. The Friends of Art and the Greater Boston Wheaton Alumnae/i Association co-sponsor an annual Fall event coordinated with the featured exhibition at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The Friends of Art also sponsors bus trips to New York and other cities, and supports the Art Department and the Beard Gallery in a variety of ways. Contact Betsy Cronin for membership information.

A new newsletter highlighting art news from academic years 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 will be published in early October, 2008.

Arc of Intent: Claudia R. Fieo, Selected Works, 1988-2008
Professor of Printmaking and Graphic Design at Wheaton College, Fieo examines the trajectory of her artistic vision through selected works, primarily in printmaking, but also in drawing and ceramic sculpture. Voice of An Artist- Patrick Dougherty
Primitive Ways in an Accelerated World
During the last two decades, Dougherty has built over 150 sculptural works constructed of tree saplings throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The lecture, opening reception and dedication, culminates a three-week residency, during which the artist will work directly with students on a site-specific sculpture for Wheaton's campus. Holman Room, Mary Lyon Hall, 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Celeste Gottesman Bartos '35 Fund for the Visual Arts with in the Evelyn Danzig Haas '39 Visiting Artists Program and the Master Class in the Visual Arts Fund given by a Wheaton alumna within the Evelyn Danzig Haas '39 Visiting Artists Program

Hugh Townley: The Wizard of Wood
A retrospective look at the artist's work over the course of the last 60 years, starting with the bronzes from 1949 to the plywood pieces in 2005. Beard & Weil Galleries, Watson Fine Arts. Opening reception, November 2, 2 p.m., Haas Concourse & Lobby, Watson Fine Arts
