How to handle annoying, harassing, or obscene telephone calls

Once the call is recognized as annoying, harassing or obscene, hang up immediately. Do not engage in conversation.

Do not slam the receiver down. Just quietly hang up.

Do not give out personal information to anyone who calls. This includes your name, address, social security number, birthday and ATM codes.

Report all incidents to the Wheaton College Public Safety Department. The Public Safety Department will investigate all reports of annoying, harassing and obscene telephone calls.

If the calls continue, the Public Safety Department will work with you and the college telephone service provider to attempt to identify the caller.

Those found responsible for making annoying, obscene or harassing telephone calls may face criminal prosecution as well as college sanctions.
