What To Do

Victims of sexual assault are encouraged to report an incident and to seek help and advice. Wheaton encourages all victims of sexual assault or rape to report it to the police and pursue criminal charges. This can be done separately or in conjuction with campus disciplinary options. The Public Safety Department is available to assist any student in filing a criminal complaint.

Should a rape occur, a victim should not bathe, douche or otherwise clean her/himself;nor should the area where the attack occured be cleaned or disturbed.

The victim should go to a safe place, call the Norton Police at 911, Public Safety at x3333 or the New Hope Hotline at 1-800-323-4673. Then avail her/himself of the following options: to to a hospital to be examined and treated; seek counseling at the College Counseling Center or New Hope in Attleboro; and/or talk with the Coordinator of the College's Sexual Assault Response Team.

Except as required in formal hearings, a victim's name and reports are kept strictly confidential.
