Short-term changes for January 2003
Because of the critical need for faculty/staff parking during the day and visitor parking to arts events at night, and the availability of spaces in P lot, the Committee agreed, after much debate, to restrict a number of spaces (approx. 30) in the west end of G lot to faculty/staff and visitors and re-direct students to Lot P.
Students felt strongly that visitors to most campuses expect to walk from more distant lots to an event and argued strongly that we minimize the number of reallocated spaces. Faculty and staff felt that there were some visitors who couldn't walk great distances, felt the other lots were not apparent to visitors, and argued for more space (as many as 60). Public Safety feels that we can manage appropriately by creating about 30 additional faculty/staff/visitor spaces in lot G, with a new system of event signage and staff to direct visitors to additional spaces in lot K (Clark Center) and lot B (Balfour-Hood). Public Safety will implement this plan and the appropriate signage and all-campus notices during January.
