Thefts on Campus
This week, several rooms on campus were broken into, and valuable equipment was stolen and damaged in those rooms. Two laptop computers were stolen and one laptop computer was damaged. The Public Safety Department is investigating these thefts; and if you have any information regarding them, please report that information to Public Safety. While you may believe your information is insignificant, it may be valuable to the investigation, so I urge you to contact us.
Keep Your Door Locked
When you're not in your room, make sure you lock the door. It's a good idea to lock the door when you decide to go to bed for the night.
Don't Prop Doors
The hall staff and Public Safety staff are constantly securing doors that are propped open. Propping doors allows anyone into your house or residence hall, and makes the residence unsafe for everyone. If you see others doing this, tell them not to, and/or report them if necessary. It's up to everyone to keep the campus residence halls and houses as safe as possible.
Don't Let Suspicious People Into your Residence Hall or House
If the person belongs in your residence s/he will have a key to the front door. If the person doesn't have a key or isn't with a resident, then they don't belong there, so don't let them in.
Report Suspicious People Who Don't Belong in the Residence Halls or Houses
Be aware of the people who are in your house or residence hall, and call Public Safety to report anyone you see that seems suspicious. An officer will respond to stop and identify the person and to find out what s/he is doing there.
Secure Your Valuable Items and Cash
While it makes it less convenient to use or get quickly, lock down your valuable equipment like computers (including laptops), TV's, stereos, and the like. Lock your cash, especially large amounts of cash, in a safe place or better yet, put it in the bank. Keep serial numbers and information on all your valuable equipment so you¢â¡Áll have it handy in case it is damaged or stolen. Last, don't show others, even your friends, where you keep valuable or personal items hidden or secured.
