Caution Required to Avoid Wild Animal Bites
Fox like animal(s) bit two Wheaton students on Thursday, April 10th. The first incident took place in a wooded area near Pine Street during the early afternoon; the male student was bit in the leg by a fox. The second incident took place at approximately 11 p.m. as two students were leaving the Haas Center when they were approached by an animal (type unknown). One of the students was bitten just below the knee. The students involved in these incidents were treated at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Neither student sustained serious injury.
The incident were reported to the Town of Norton Animal Control Officer. During the evening of April 11th, the Animal Control Officer advised the Public Safety Department that a fox involved in two other human exposure incidents in the Pine Street area had been infected with Rabies.
Students, Faculty and Staff should avoid contact with any wild animal. When leaving any campus building day or night, make sure your path is clear of fox, raccoon or coyote etc. If you observe any animal acting in an unusual manner in the area of the campus contact the Public Safety Department immediately. Seek medical attention upon contact with a wild animal.
