Some walked a few laps, others logged 20 miles or more, circling the Dimple in shifts from 2 p.m. on April 17 to 9 a.m. the next day. The dedicated Wheaton hoofers raised an impressive $44,420 in pledges to benefit the American Cancer Society, surpassing their goal by more than 25 percent.
Flickering luminaria on the library steps provided inspiration through the night. Many participants walked in memory of loved ones or to honor friends and family members now battling the disease.
