Library Laptop Lending Policy

Guidelines

The library has 6 Dell Latitude D630 laptops available for checkout. Wheaton students with a valid Wheaton College ID may borrow laptops for use within the facility. Eligible students must be in good standing with the library. Laptops...

are available at the Circulation Desk
may not be reserved in advance
may be borrowed for 3 hours
may be renewed for 3 hours as long as no other eligible student is waiting

Borrowers will be asked, upon check-out and check-in procedures, to examine the laptop with a Circulation staff member or student employee and be provided with a checklist to be certain that all parts are operational. Users will sign an agreement form acknowledging replacement costs and restrictions:

Laptops are library use only and are not to leave the library
Laptops should not be left unattended in the library
Do not duplicate, remove, or install any software from/on the laptop
Save everything to a USB flash drive, CD-RW disk, your personal file space, or email the file to your email account. Once a computer is restarted all non-standard program files will be removed.
Notify the Circulation Desk staff if the laptop or related equipment is damaged
Return laptop to the Circulation Desk one hour before closing
Return laptop to the Circulation Desk; do not leave in the book return
Failure to return the laptop on time will result in suspension of future laptop privileges

Replacement or Damage Charges

Borrowers are responsible for loss, damage, and theft of the laptop while in their possession. Borrower should verify the condition of the laptop at the time of check-out and upon check-in. Borrowers are responsible for the full amount of repair or replacement charges. Currently, replacement / damage charges are:

Laptop Lost/Damaged/Stolen : $1800.00
RAM $300.00
CD-RW/DVD Drive : $400.00
Battery : $150.00
Hard Drive : $300.00
AC Adapter / Power Cord: $175.00
Ethernet Patch Cable : $5.00

Printing

Black & white printing is available from each laptop and printouts may be picked up at one of the central printers in the Atrium.
