TEI: Definition and Examples

A system for digitally representing and describing texts in the humanities, using a computer mark-up language called XML (eXtensible Markup Language). This system has been used and continually developed since 1987 by a group of people from multiple research institutions (the TEI-C).

  • Ensuring longevity of the text
  • Making texts more portable
  • Enhancing a text with descriptive data
