AIM virus help

We are currently getting a large number of requests to fix computers for students who have gotten viruses through AOL Instant Messenger. These viruses initiate network activities that force us to block the computer in order to protect both the stability of the network and all the other users. If you've clicked on a link in AIM or are experiencing symptoms similar to the descriptions listed below, we have a program that will clean the virus. These viruses only infect computers running Windows.

From the "Start" menu, click "Run." Type in "\\netspace.wheatonma.edu\shared" (without the quotes) then click "OK." In the window that will appear, scroll down to the software folder, then within that folder open the "aim fix" folder and copy "aimfix.exe" (it may appear as just "aimfix") to your desktop. Close the "aim fix" folder window.

Double-click "aimfix.exe" from your desktop. If you get an error that the fix is unable to delete a particular virus infected file, you will need to start your computer in Safe Mode and run the fix program again. Please call x3900 if you have any questions or need help with this fix.
