Highlights from our 2004 Events

The 2nd annual Slide Heard Round the World! was held on April 5-9, 2004. This event was a virtual gathering of trombonists through advanced technology. The Slide's 2004 schedule included a concert, a recital, two masterclasses, and a lecture. This year, more than two hundred people were involved from the following states: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Mississippi, Kansas and Texas. Thank you to URI and CCRI for generously accommodating trombonists from Rhode Island College.

Sunday, April 4: Trombone Choir Concert

Tuesday, April 6: Trombone Masterclasses

  • 1-2 pm (ET)
    • Participants included trombone players from Bristol-Warren Public Schools, RI; Brown University, RI; Rhode Island College, RI; University of Texas at Austin (AustinBones); Wheaton College, MA. Most participants participated from their home campuses.
    • Technology: H.323 videoconference over Internet2. Interactive for registered sites.

  • 2:15-3:15 pm (ET)
    • Participants included trombone players from Brown University, RI; Scituate Public Schools, MA; Wichita State University, KS; Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI); University of Texas at Austin (AustinBones); Wheaton College, MA. Most participants participated from their home campuses.
    • Technology: H.323 videoconference over Internet2. Interactive for registered sites.

Thursday, April 8: Trombone Clinic: "Modern Trombone Design" with Steve Shires

  • Featured Steve Shires, master trombone builder
  • Time: 1:30-2:30 pm (ET)
  • Locations: Wheaton College, MA; Mississippi State University, MS; Wichita State University, KS.
  • Mr. Shires, located at Wheaton College, was joined, virtually, by Mississippi State University and Wichita State University.
