Profile: The Tokyo program offers students an opportunity to take courses in Japanese or English through Kanda University. The university is dedicated to excellence in international studies, foreign languages, intercultural communication, Japanese culture, and linguistics. The university enrolls 2,700 students annually. The IES Center is located within walking distance from the campus and from public transportation.
Location: Japan is one of the world's largest economies and one of the most densely populated countries with a total population of 127 million people. Tokyo is the capital city and the headquarters for companies such as Canon, IBM, Sharp, and Seiko Instruments. The Tokyo program is located in Makuhari New City just minutes away from the excitement of downtown Tokyo where students can access both contemporary and ancient traditions.
Duration: Academic year, fall, or spring semesters
Program dates:
Fall: Late August - Mid December
Spring: Late March - Mid July
Courses & credit: (1) Japanese Language Intensive Program: 12-credits Japanese language course at Meikai University and at least one 3-credit IES area studies course. (2) Japanese Society and Culture Program: 6 credits of Japanese (Jissen Nihongo) at KUIS and 9-13 credits in area studies courses at IES and KUIS. Both tracks will result in 4.0 Wheaton credits for a semester of study.

Admission requirements: Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0. (1) 3 semesters of college-level Japanese or the equivalent (2) No previous language experience required.
Housing & board: Students may choose to live in either a single room in private off-campus dormitory or with a homestay family. Two meals provided 7 days a week for homestays. Dorm's meal plan is included and provides 2 meals daily, six days a week. No meals provided on Sundays or public holidays. Kanda offers some rooms in Kanda University women's dorm (Shorter commute, but no meal plan offered.) Students usually eat lunch at inexpensive student cafeterias on partner university campuses.
Fees: Wheaton tuition and housing. Expenses covered include tuition, housing, round-trip group flight from Los Angeles, program-related field trips, transportation subsidy, and an ISIC card.
Other Expenses: Students are responsible for passport and visa fees, round-trip airfare to Los Angeles, board, textbooks, required cell phone, IES insurance, full year students must arrange own accommodation from January - March, and personal expenses.
