Wheaton in Sussex
The University of Sussex
Profile: The University of Sussex in Brighton is one of England's leading teaching and research universities. Founded in the 1960's it is a newer university characterized by innovative approaches to learning. Studies at Sussex are interdisciplinary in focus, encouraging students to explore their academic interests from the perspective of more than one subject. There are over 2,300 international students and faculty from 40 nations, including two Nobel Prize winners in the sciences (Sir John Cornforth and Sir Harry Kroto). The campus borders Sussex Downs, an area of rolling hills, farms, villages and vineyards, a popular landscape for students who like to bike or hike! Just a few minutes away is the lively city of Brighton and Hove.
Location: Located on the south coast, less than one hour from London, Brighton has been nicknamed "London by The Sea." It is a vibrant city offering cafe culture, beachfront and a relaxed pace of life. Historically, it was a strategically important location for trade and governance during Roman and Saxon times. In the 1820's it became a fashionable resort when the Prince Regent (King George IV) built a home, the Royal Pavilion, a Brighton Landmark famous for its lavish oriental architecture.
