Studio Art Centers International (SACI)
Profile: Founded in 1975, Studio Art Centers International (SACI) was established to provide students with an opportunity to study Studio Art, Art History, Art Conservation, and Italian Cultural Studies in the heart of Florence, Italy. Throughout the semester students are given various opportunities to meet with local artists, visit art galleries, as well as explore the museums in and around Florence. These field trips provide a canvas for learning beyond the classroom experience. Over the past twenty-five years the SACI program has built a reputation which has attracted students from more than 250 institutions around the U.S.
Location: Florence, Italy provides the perfect backdrop to study Studio Art and Art History. The city provides an artist haven and a city that can illuminate the creative spirit. The facilities of the SACI program are just steps away from Michelangelo's Medici Chapel, the Duomo, and the center of Florence. Florence is also a short train ride to other cities in Italy and around Europe.
Duration: Academic year, fall, or spring semesters
Program dates:
Fall 2008: September 3rd - December 15, 2008
Spring 2008: January 9th - April 21, 2008
Summer: Mid May - Late June and Late June - Late July
Courses & credit: Students take five 3-credit courses per semester in order to receive 4.0 Wheaton credits. All courses are taught in English.
Internships are available to Museology students during the spring semester. Students must receive Wheaton faculty approval prior to departure in order to receive transfer credit. A working knowledge of Italian is necessary.

Admission requirements: Students with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Students applying for courses at the intermediate or advanced level must include slides, photos, CD's or videos of work completed in the area of study. Scholarship applicants must complete additional requirements in order to apply.
Housing & board: Housing is arranged in shared, self-catered apartments located around the city of Florence.
Fees: Wheaton tuition and housing. Expenses covered include tuition and fees, housing, assistance with obtaining the Italian student visa, round-trip group flight from Boston or New York, program-related field trips, lab fees, Italian Insurance, and an ISIC card.
Other Expenses: Students are responsible for passport fees, refundable housing deposit, single room supplement, board, travel costs to meet the group flight in Boston or New York, Supplemental Study Abroad Insurance, shipping costs for artwork, and personal expenses.
