Wheaton in Oxford
Oxford University In affiliation with the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University
Profile: Oxford University (14,500) is one of the oldest and most well known universities in the world, with excellence in research and teaching. Admission as a Visiting Student is extremely competitive. The University is comprised of forty five colleges and halls, some having been founded in the 13th century. Its educational system is unique and is based on the„tutorial‰, which is similar to directed reading with an accompanying discussion group. Each student is assigned to a member of the teaching staff, called a tutor, taking into account the student‚s areas of interest and the tutor‚s expertise. Students are expected to have a solid foundation in order to engage in upper level study. Visiting students are registered as members of the university and the colleges to which they are admitted, allowing access to libraries, membership in the Junior Common Room, social and sports facilities.
Location: The city of Oxford (170,000) takes on much of the character of the University and its ambience.
