Wheaton at James Cook University

James Cook University, Queensland

Profile: James Cook University was founded in 1970 and is Australia's leading tropical university with main campuses located in Townsville and Cairns. JCU offers 170 undergraduate degrees in Arts, Creative Arts, Education, Law, Medicine, Information Technology, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Science. Between the Townsville (10,000) and Cairns (3,000) campuses, JCU has a total enrollment of 13,000 students including 1,300 international students from over 90 countries.

Location: James Cook University is named after the famous eighteenth century English explorer. It is no surprise why he chose this region as an area to navigate. The campuses in Cairns and Townville offer a tropical Australian experience. Students studying on the Cairns campus will have easy access to rainforests located just a step away. The Townsville campus is located just outside the thriving coastal city of Townsville, with a population of 140,000. Both areas provide a launching point to the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback, Tablelands, and other sites in and around Australia.
