What Is My Balfour/Community/Trustee Scholar Stipend?
Your Scholar stipend can be applied to a range of unpaid out-of-classroom learning experiences including internships, research, student-faculty collaborations, professional development activities and community service endeavors.
When can I Access My Stipend?
You are eligible to access your Scholar stipend for an experience in the summer of either your sophomore or junior year.
What About Opportunities This Year(as a first year student)?
While you are waiting to become eligible to access your Scholar stipend, there are opportunities that exist for this year.
Many first-year Scholars are eager to participate in out-of-class learning experiences as early as January in order to begin discovering and/or exploring academic and career areas of interest. Summer is another popular time to try something out. It is not too early to talk with an advisor at the Filene Center, and to begin exploring your options for out-of-class learning.
You don't need to know what you want to explore in order to learn about how the staff and resources at the Filene Center can enhance your Wheaton experience. The sooner we know more about you, the better able we are to work with you on exploring and pursuing your dreams, goals, and emerging interests. What Funding Opportunities Exist For Me As a First Year Student?
To help offset some of the expenses associated with having a summer out-of-classroom learning experience during your first year at Wheaton, the Filene Center administers a competition called the Wheaton Fellows Program. Selected recipients receive stipends for a range of out-of-class learning experiences. You are eligible to apply this year, because you are not yet eligible to apply for your Scholar stipend.
