WHEATON FUNDING FOR EXPERIENTIAL TEACHING AND LEARNING
The Educational Policy Experiential Committee is pleased to announce the availability of funds for the purpose of developing, strengthening and evaluating experiential teaching and learning in our curriculum.
Departmental Workshops
The primary goal this coming year is to support departments as they consider the role, value and impact of experiential learning in their curriculum, and develop a discipline-based plan for experiential teaching and learning. Half-day or full-day on-campus workshops can address questions such as:
- What kinds of experiential teaching and learning are best suited to my discipline?
- Where does experiential learning fit in the course sequence and co-curricular offerings of my department?
- What resources are available to my department to support experiential teaching and learning?
Funded workshops must include a Filene Center staff member, and may include community partners or discipline-based consultants. We offer stipends of $100/day or $50/half day and some support for consultation with experts in your discipline.
Experiential Innovations
A second goal is to support faculty (individual or group) explorations and evaluation of experiential teaching and learning. Priority is given to experiential teaching and learning innovations that address the foundations, connections and infusion themes of our curriculum.
This type of experiential learning course or program can:
- Be centered in academically rigorous content.
- Intentionally use non-traditional classroom/laboratory activities as resource or "text" for student learning.
- Be developed in collaboration with campus or community partners.
- Incorporate multiple strategies for evaluation of both the experiential component and its contribution to teaching and to student learning.
Stipends typically will range from $500-$2,000 for faculty who propose to develop or modify a course that includes or is connected to a significant experiential learning dimension.
Call or email Grace Baron (Ext. 3689, gbaron) or Kay Gruder (Ext. 3796, kgruder) with any questions. They will be happy to work with you to develop your proposals. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis. Please submit proposals to the Provost's Office via Lynda Marcoccia
(Ext. 3493, lmarcocc).
