Main Interests

Continuum of Mentoring Support for Preservice through New College Faculty, Pre-K- 16 Partnerships, Program Evaluation, Math & Science Education, Children's Play

Research Interests

I am examining the impact of birth through five family support programs/ early chldhood programs on young children's development. I have been re-appointed to a 2 year term on the MA Early Childhood Advisory Council and continue as a member of the Early Learning Data Advisory Board. Currently, I am completing a multifacted program evaluation of the Bridgewater~Raynham~Taunton Community Partnerships for Children Program. We have developed the Collaboration Network, a model for peer visits within the early learning field.

I am interested in the design, implementation, and evaluation of rmentoring programs for beginning Pre - K - 12 teachers and for newly hired higher education faculty. I am particularly interested in looking at characteristics of effective mentors and of successful mentoring models. These activities reflect my ongoing commitment to community collaboration and to service learning.

Teaching Interests

I collaborate closely with math and science faculty for my Early Childhood and Elementary Curricululm course.Additionally, I collaborate frequently with early childhood and elementary practitioners for all of my courses.

Other Interests

I am interested in consulting as a program developer and program evaluator for mentoring and early childhood/ family support programs. Currently, I am the evaluation consultant for the Bridgewater~Raynham~Taunton Community Partnerships for Children program.

I have recently co authored four grants with Wheaton Faculty Mathematics and Science faculty. These grants involve the design of a new, year long science course for preservice teachers entitled Ponds to Particles; a Discrete Math Summer Institute for K-8 teachers, a Mentoring in Discrete Math Institute for K-8 teachers and the Teaching Scholar Partnerships program.

Student Projects

I work with 7 Wheaton students who are involved in the Teaching Scholar Partnerships program. These students are mentored by Wheaton math, science and education faculty and by K-12 teachers in the Norton and Attleboro schools. With support, these students plan and implement standards based science and math lessons for elementary and middle school students.
