Main Interests
International economic issues; economic growth and progress in the developing nations; International Relations; poverty abroad and in the U.S.
Research Interests
My research interests follow my teaching. I have written on the impact of Structural Adjustment policies on women in Sub-Saharan Africa, and on the impact of the transition to a market economy on the women of Hungary. Currently I'm interested in examining the impact of globalization on inequality, economic security, and poverty.
Teaching Interests
In my First Year Seminar, "Poverty in a Global Context," in incorporate experiential learning opportunities and have students work in teams to make oral presentations and do in depth research on poverty in countries around the world. I also team teach the Senior Seminar in International Relations with Professor Boroviak of the Political Science Department. That seminar, on International Political Economy, is particularly interesting both because it is an interdisciplinary course that examines the current process of globalization from multiple perspectives, and because teaching in a seminar setting with another faculty member enables us to challenge students make connections between many of the courses they have already taken.
