Research Interests
I have been involved for the past several years on a collaborative research project along with Ann Sears in the music department and Zeph Stickney in the archives. We are researching the life and work of Ruth Lynda Deyo, a composer and artist who wrote an opera set in during the reign of Pharoah Akhenaton in the 18th Dynasty of ancient Egypt. Deyo's journals, papers, and drawings, along with the set and costume designs for the opera (by artists she hired), and much more are on repository in the Gebbie Archives. We have already presented papers on Deyo at professional meetings, and Ann Sears has also published some biographical articles.
Our aim is to write a biography of this remarkable American woman,
who spent much of her adult life in Egypt promoting the opera, which was
written between 1927 and 1932, but never fully performed.

Selected Publications, Creative Work or Performances
I have published at least three articles on Vincent van Gogh,
two on the cubist painter, Henri LeFauconnier, and have contributed
entries on paintings by artists of The Hague School to the collection
catalogue of the Taft Museum in Cincinnati. I have written many articles,
reviews, and and exhibition catalogues on the work of contemporary
artists.
