Spring Weekend!

Yeah it's finally spring, and with that finally came spring weather!! This past weekend was Spring Weekend, so there was tons of fun stuff going on. The Programming Council puts on the weekend and it's where the majority of their budget goes. This year's theme was kind of heaven and hell. Friday there was the Head of the Peacock, which is a homemade boat race on Peacock Pond. At the same time, the campus radio station hosts an outside block party thing with bands.

Saturday afternoon is always the best though. Starting a noon, there is a big cookout and some little opening bands playing in the Dimple. We also had umm henna tattoos, heaven pictures, a butt caricaturist, DDR, fried dough and a bunch of other random stuff. We had the most gorgeous day and everyone, I mean everyone was outside on blankets in the Dimple.

I, of course, spent the first 6 hours of that day in my room working on a paper because I didn't have time during the week because I had a takehome Number Theory exam. I did get out there for the cookout and to tell everyone I would eventually join them. I finally went outside right as the main concert started. This year we had the Wailers, which was Bob Marley's band. They played the famous songs. Both Friday and Saturday there were also Heaven and Hell dances, I think they were fire and ice themed.

The next day, the Lyon's Den hosted a brunch. The Lyon's Den is the student run coffee house that is on campus. I didn't go because I had a presentation to work on that day.

April

It has not been spring weather lately. I went to a women's lacrosse game last week and it started snowing right after! Then a couple days later I went to a baseball game and it was kind of nice out. Then it was so rainy and windy last night that we basically had a monsoon.

This past Friday, there was another Accepted Student Open House and the math club put on another table. This time we had all the other science clubs with us. It was really fun because the Tri Beta Honor Society brought out one of the many terrapin turtles that are in the vivarium and the Physics Club brought out one of their telescopes and then some other experiments. The Eco Club was there too. We're having another table this next Friday.

Relay for Life was this past Friday. The weather, again, wasn't that great so we ended up moving inside halfway through. Usually it's an all night walk around the Dimple, and it's always in early spring, so people are used to the cold, but it was supposed to be freezing.

Overall, it was very successful because we raised over $35,000 for the American Cancer Society!

busy busy

Yeah I guess you could say that I'm pretty busy. Let me look through my planner to see what's been happening. Well, most time consuming has been all of my classes. I hate looking ahead to see what due dates I have coming up. I will be completely done with schoolwork on May 11th though, which is kind of scary and a whole other story.

A couple weeks ago, Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) sold and delivered daffodils to raise money for The American Cancer Society. The next event like that will be on April 13th, Relay For Life. RFL is an all night walk to raise money for cancer research. Towns and colleges usually host them. I'm really looking forward to it because I've been really involved with the planning since last semester. I'm one of the coordinators for registration and for the website. It's going to be a big event where almost the entire campus gets involved. It's held around the Dimple, which is really fun.

Two weeks ago, I went to a lecture put on by the math department. We hosted a BU professor and he gave an enlightening talk on fractals and chaos theory. We had a fancy dinner after with the professors. The next weekend I went to some other math talks at neighboring Bridgewater State College. Apparently, I don't get enough of the subject in my 3 classes.

Something else I started is a four week class called Beyond the Bubble that is put on by Student Life. It basically takes about 20 seniors and teaches us how to live and work outside of Wheaton. So far we learned about dressing professionally and how to handle ourselves at a business dinner. Next we are working on our interview skills with some actual company representatives. I went out and bought my first suit, kinda crazy.
