Getting Down to Business
I finished up my semester-long internship yesterday! I worked for the Tyco Healthcare corporate office in Mansfield since January. They are soon going to be changing their name to Covidien. I was in the Clinical Affairs department and I was in charge keeping track of the Continuing Education Program for registered nurses that take our classes. I had a lot of responsibility which I really enjoyed. I had to make sure the sales reps were following protocol and they had to ask my permission for certain things. I also made a final statistical report that was distributed to everyone and I got to decide how to best show the data with graphs and such. Even though I was only there one day a week (sometimes one and a half), I had my own cubicle and computer and phone number and everything. AND I got paid very well.
My second to last day, we went out to eat at the pub down the street and they really were hoping that I would stay on in the summer. Cleaning out my desk yesterday was depressing and I was really touched by their presents and cards. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tyco and everyone that I met was wonderful.

I'm currently working with HR there and next week I'm going to shadow the Sales Analyst department to see what they do. I think that job will be more up my alley since it will obviously use more math. My internship mostly focused on my computer/Excel/Access skills. What's great about college is that you can't really avoid learning about Power Point and Excel, which are invaluable tools in the working world. Our generation has had the advantage of growing up with these tools as normal parts of our lives. posted by Coriann at 9:47 AM
