Skidmore takes meeting between regionally-ranked teams from Wheaton

NORTON, MA- In a meeting between a pair of teams ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region poll, number-13 Skidmore College downed 18th-ranked Wheaton College, 9-0 in Beard Field House on Saturday. The Lyons dropped just their second decision of the spring, slipping to 4-2, while the Thoroughbreds finished off a two-day sweep of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes in moving to 8-5. Skidmore defeated host Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Friday.

Wheaton held close during a pair of doubles matches, as its top two tandems each fell by an 8-5 count. At number one, sophomore James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and freshman Greg Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) succumbed to senior Jared Karlebach (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) and freshman Yahia Imam (Cairo, Egypt/Li Po Chun United World College). In the second position, sophomore Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and freshman Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) dropped their decision to senior Cameron Clark (Indianapolis, IN/Park Tudor) and freshman Carl-Eric Girardin (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest).

Skidmore swept the six singles matches, but only after Wheaton put up a strong fight. At number one, Poulin fell short of Girardin by a 6-4, 6-4 count, while Little narrowly dropped a 7-6, 6-3 decision in the second position. At five, freshman Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) bowed out 6-4, 6-3, and Krantz lost at number four after coming within 7-5 in the second set.

The Lyons continue a four-match homestand on Tuesday, as they take on the University of Massachusetts at Boston at 3:30 p.m.
