Wheaton hosts four-team routines meet, finishes third overall

February 23, 2008

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team hosted a four-school routines-only meet Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons finished third to Division I schools Canisius College and Boston University in Balfour Natatorium. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) took fourth.

Wheaton turned in a pair of runner-up marks in the team and solo categories. Senior Megan Kinney (Los Angeles, CA/Marlborough School), junior Sylvia Syracuse (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West), sophomores Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) and Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden), and freshmen Jenna Calvino (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) and Sonvje Ryen (Bozeman, MT/Manhattan Christian) combined to score 82.667 points in the team routine, while Montes tallied 77.167 points in solo.

The Lyons also accounted for two third-place showings in the duet and trio, each behind a pair of Canisius routines. Swinkin and Syracuse teamed up to score 78.667 points in duet, while Montes, Ryen and Swinkin sided for 75.000, just 1.500 points shy of second place.

The Blue and White is back in action at next weekend's two-day East Collegiate Regional Championship. Hosted by Canisius, the meet is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
