DePolito earns second NFCA All-New England honorMay 10, 2006 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College softball junior co-captain Jessica DePolito (Taunton, MA/Coyle and Cassidy) was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England selection for the second straight season, earning a spot as the first baseman on the second team. DePolito, one of 15 athletes chosen from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), drew a spot on the first team last spring. A NEWMAC All-Conference first-team pick this spring, the lefty swinger led the Lyons in batting (.373), hits (44), RBI (22), slugging (.568) and on-base percentage (.413) while tying for first in triples (3), placing second in doubles (8) and tying for second in home runs (3). DePolito fielded at a .987 clip while spending most of her time at first base. As one of Wheaton's most clutch hitters, DePolito batted .385 with runners in scoring position and collected 11 two-out RBI. She had a hit in 32 of 38 games, drove in three or more runs five times, and seven of her run-scoring hits either tied the game or gave Wheaton the lead. DePolito finished the regular season among the top 10 in the NEWMAC in batting average, doubles, triples, home runs and RBI. She started all 38 games in which she appeared, most of which coming out of the cleanup spot. Wheaton went 24-15 overall this season, including posting a 9-7 NEWMAC record, while tying for second in the regular season conference standings. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
