Pair of late second-half goals leave Lyons and Hawks deadlocked at 1-1September 26, 2006 BRISTOL, RI- The Wheaton College men's soccer team played in its fourth double-overtime game of the season, as the Lyons and host Roger Williams University each scored in the final 1:19 of regulation to force the extra sessions Tuesday afternoon at Bayside Field. The tie left Wheaton stunned, as the Blue and White had the game in hand with the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute, but the Hawks managed to find the equalizer with 19 ticks on the clock. The Lyons are now 5-3-2 on the season, while Roger Williams is 4-3-2. Wheaton kept its unbeaten streak against the Hawks intact, improving to 8-0-3 in 11 meetings since 1990. Lyon sophomore forward Dan Lane (Dedham, MA/Worcester Academy) posted his sixth goal of the season and what figured to be his third game-winning tally of the fall to give Wheaton a 1-0 edge at 88:41, but the hosts used a throw-in, cross and finish at 89:41 to push the game to overtime. Junior Evan Solis (Seymour, CT/Seymour) was credited with the tally, while senior Rich Reddington (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) picked up the assist on the play. Wheaton senior goalie David Croft (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) made a pair of stops in his second straight start, including a clutch save in overtime, while Hawk senior Kevin Deegan (Seymour, CT/Seymour) accounted for five stops. The Lyons outshot Roger Williams, 16-10. The Lyons swing back into conference action this Saturday against Springfield College, as Wheaton hosts the Pride over Homecoming weekend at 1:00 p.m. At halftime, Wheaton will hold a special dedication ceremony for the Konig family, whose generous gifts contributed to the renovations of Keefe Field.
