Lyons drop third straight for first time since 1999, fall to WilliamsSeptember 17, 2006 WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Wheaton College men's soccer team dropped its third straight game for the first time since the 1999 season, falling to host Williams College, 5-1 during Sunday afternoon's non-conference action between a pair of nationally-ranked squads on Cole Field. The Lyons, who were ranked sixth in the country in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, saw their record fall to 4-3, while the 19th-ranked Ephs remained perfect through two games. Prior to today, Wheaton hadn't given up five goals to an opponent since the 1996 season, nor had the Blue and White suffered a four-goal loss in four seasons. Williams used five different goal scorers to take a 5-0 advantage, including posting three first-half tallies within a 21:54 span. The Ephs also scored at 68:00 and 79:45 before junior Reed Hollett (Bedford, Nova Scotia/Halifax Grammar School) put the Lyons on the board with 6:13 to play. That goal marked Hollett's first of the season and fourth of his career. Wheaton senior goalkeeper Matt Pachniuk (Newtown, CT/Newtown) accounted for 10 saves in over 82 minutes of action, while classmate David Croft (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) finished the game. Williams senior keeper Jeff Castiglione (West Hartford, CT) made two stops in 71 minutes. The Ephs outshot the Lyons, 31-8 while holding a 13-6 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton returns home Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game against Brandeis University.
