Lane corrals ECAC and NEWMAC Player-of-the-Week nodsSeptember 11, 2006
Lane, a sophomore striker, played a hand in all three of Wheaton's goals last week to help the nationally-ranked Lyons remain perfect. At Bridgewater State College on Wednesday, he assisted on the game's lone tally during the 62nd minute. On the road against 17th-ranked Keene State College on Saturday, Lane tallied a game-tying marker during the 40th minute before depositing the winner in the 105th minute of a 2-1 overtime victory. On the season, Lane has scored five of Wheaton's 11 goals and leads the NEWMAC in both goals and points (11). He has played a hand in five markers this season that have either tied the game or given the Lyons a lead. Lane also owns two of Wheaton's four game-winning goals. Through 23 career games, he has 40 points and 18 goals, including seven game-winners. Lane is only three tallies shy of joining Wheaton's all-time top 10. Wheaton, which last week was ranked 10th in the country and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), is off to a 4-0 start for the first time in two years. The Lyons are tied for first in the NEWMAC with 2.75 goals per game and return to action tomorrow with a home match against Western New England College at 4:00 p.m. The Golden Bears are ranked fourth in the region and receiving votes in the national poll.
