Shea tallies lone goal in nationally-ranked Wheaton's victorySeptember 6, 2006 BRIDGEWATER, MA- Sophomore Jeff Shea (Canton, MA/Canton) netted the game's lone goal as the Wheaton College men's soccer team notched its first win since returning to the national rankings, 1-0 over Bridgewater State College at Swenson Field on Wednesday. The Lyons, who are 10th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, improved to 3-0 this season and 12-0 all time against Bridgewater State. The Bears fell to 0-1. Wheaton held a 14-0 edge in shots during a scoreless first half before Shea converted a pass from sophomore Dan Lane (Dedham, MA/Worcester Academy) in the 62nd minute. The marker went down as Shea's second career game-winner, while the helper upped Lane's team-leading point total to seven. For the game, the Lyons held decisive edges of 23-1 in shots and 14-2 in corner kicks, while senior Matt Pachniuk (Newtown, CT/Newtown) went untested in goal during his first shutout of the season and 24th of his career. At the other end, senior John Naughton (Braintree, MA/Braintree) turned aside six shots. The two teams combined for eight cards, including two reds assessed to the Bears, who played a man short for the final 11:49 and two men down for the last 6:18.
