Lane begins year with NEWMAC Co-Player-of-the-Week award

September 4, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer standout Dan Lane (Dedham, MA/Worcester Academy) began the 2006 season with the third New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week selection during his brief career. Earning the award for the week ending on Sunday, September 3, Lane shares this week's honor with Babson senior Derek Losi.

The sophomore forward contributed to both of Wheaton's home victories on the week, including posting the game-winning goal during yesterday's 5-0 win over Fontbonne University. On Friday against State University of New York at New Paltz, Lane's 64th-minute marker gave the Lyons their first lead of the afternoon, sending the hosts to a 3-2 overtime victory.

Coming off a season that saw Lane capture Wheaton's freshman scoring record, last year's NEWMAC Rookie of the Year is already on pace to surpass his 2005 totals of 13 goals and 29 points. Tying Losi for the conference goal lead, Lane currently stands tied for second in goals per game, third in points and fourth in points per contest. The Wheaton offense is second overall with 3.91 goals per game.

Lane and the Lyons' 29-member squad travel to local foe Bridgewater State College on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m. Wheaton has won each of the 11 meetings against the Bears dating back to the 1992 season.
